Sustainable Tourism

In 2002 Kombo Beach Hotel changed ownership and since that time a new management team began to renovate the hotel and implement environmental and social management strategies. Environment and social awareness keep on playing an important role in our organization.

During the years Kombo Beach has become the front runner in the Gambian hotel industry when it comes to addressing environmental issues. Up to date we are still the only major resort hotel in The Gambia that as acquired a Travelife Gold Award.

We have implemented some water saving measures in the past years of which one was to reduce the water used for each toilet flush by 10%.

In previous years we substantially saved on our water consumption, despite a leak in one of the supply pipes to the swimming pool which was discovered in November 2010, we still managed to reach our target set for 2010 which was a 32% reduction in water consumption.

Overall the water consumption did drop for the year 2010 per pax in house, which again shows that continuous efforts show results. The leak in the supply system of the pool can only be solved during the summer months of 2011. The total m3 consumption for 2009 was 44,270 m3, for 2010 this was only 27,447 which means a 38% reduction (6% above target).
